After using the “Safely Remove Hardware” option on a built-in optical drive on a portable Windows Vista computer, the device may cease to perform.

The computer may also stop responding when attempting to restart or shut down after the problem occurs.

A hotfix is available from Microsoft to correct this problem and they recommend that it only be installed unless this is on a portable Vista computer with a built-in optical drive. To obtain this hotfix, request it at:
