KB929777: KB 929777

Posted By: ensiform

Trying to install Windows Vista on a computer with more than 3GB of RAM causes a Stop error.

The following error should resemble what you see when installing Vista with more than 3 GB of RAM on the machine:

STOP 0×0000000A (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Other conditions for this to occur: computer uses a storage system running the ‘Storport miniport driver’, and computer with a controller that uses 32-bit direct memory access (DMA).

To resolve this, you must first have Windows Vista installed (remove some RAM) then apply one of these patches:

32-bit
64-bit

The files affected by this update are:

  • Halacpi.dll
  • Halmacpi.dll
  • Hal.dll
