Some programs which play audio stop working. Windows Vista also displays duplicate entries in the Default Format audio format list.

Sounds in some applications may cease to work while running with Windows Vista. While viewing the properties of the audio device in the Sound control panel there may appear to be duplicate entries in the “Default Format” drop-down list.

An error message may occur upon trying to play a test sound. It may look like the following but can be different depending on the current hardware:
